Mission Statement
|
Central Oregon Baptist Church is an
autonomous Baptist church. We gather together to worship
God through the proclamation of God’s Word and biblical
fellowship so that we might know Jesus Christ personally and
intimately and make Him known widely as the Way, the Truth,
and the Life.

Statement of Faith
|
Concerning the Scriptures
We believe that the Bible consists of sixty-six books and is without error in the original manuscripts (1). The author of the Bible is the Holy Spirit (2) who superintended human authors (3) and guided them in the writing of the text (4) so that the writings were verbally and plenarily inspired (5). We believe that the Bible is the sole authority for faith and practice (6).
Some places where taught: (1) Proverbs 30:5-6; John 17:17; Revelation 22:18-19. (2) Hebrews 1:1-2; 2 Peter 1:19-21; 3:15-16. (3) Jeremiah 1:5; Galatians 1:15. (4) 2 Samuel 23:2; Acts 1:16; 1 Corinthians 2:13-14. (5) Matthew 5:18; John 10:35; Galatians 3:16; 2 Timothy 3:16. (6) Acts 17:11; 1 Corinthians 10:6-12; Ephesians 6:17; 2 Timothy 3:15-16; 1 John 4:1.
Concerning God the Son
We believe that Jesus Christ is both truly God and truly man (1). Having a literal body, He was miraculously conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary (2). He is the God-man with two natures, divine and human (3). He lived a sinless life on earth (4), died on the cross as a substitute for sinners bearing the judgment of their sins, and was raised bodily from the tomb demonstrating the sufficiency of His sacrifice and assuring future resurrection for those who believe (5). He has ascended to heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate. (6). He will return to earth at the close of the tribulation to establish His Kingdom (7).
Some places where taught: (1) Philippians 2:5-8. (2) Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:26-38. (3) John 1:1-2, 14; 8:58; Philippians 2:7-8. (4) 1 Peter 2:21-22. (5) Luke 24:1-6; 1 Corinthians 15:1-7, 23-26. (6) Hebrews 7:25; 9:24; 1 John 2:1-2. (7) Revelation 19:11-16; 20:1-6.
Concerning Salvation
We believe that salvation is made free to all by the gospel. Salvation is initiated by God and is accomplished by grace apart from any human work (1). It is the duty of all persons to accept it by personal faith (2). Nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner except his or her own voluntary refusal to accept Christ as Savior (3). All who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are forgiven, regenerated, and justified (4). The perfect righteousness of Christ is imputed to them (5). They are given spiritual life, which is manifested in their growth in grace (6).
We believe that every believer has been sanctified positionally in Christ, is being sanctified by the continuing work of the Spirit, and will be completely sanctified at the coming of Christ (7). A believer can experience victory over sin through the power of the Spirit, but one’s sin nature will not be eradicated in this life (8).True believers are saved forever and can never be lost (9). We believe that the Bible does not teach that God created any person for the purpose of condemnation (10).
Some places where taught: (1) Ephesians 2:8-9. (2) John 3:16; Acts 16:31. (3) John 5:40; Romans 2:5; 1 Timothy 2:4. (4) Romans 5:1; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:23. (5) 2 Corinthians 5:21. (6) 2 Peter 3:18. (7) 1 Corinthians 1:2; 12:4-7, 11; 2 Corinthians 3:18. (8) 1 John 1:8. (9) John 10:27-30. (10) John 3:16; 2 Peter 3:9.
This abbreviated statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our faith. The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For more information we encourage you to talk to someone on our pastoral staff. |

Church
Biography
Central Oregon
Baptist Church (COBC) began as a burden
of John Tittle and Mark Stamper for the
spiritual condition of those in Bend, Oregon.
COBC is a church plant of Open Door Baptist
Church, located in Troutdale, Oregon,
and is part of that church’s vision to see the
gospel spread throughout the Northwest. In 2007, Bend was among the fastest
growing cities in the United States; and as
representative of the Northwest, Bend is
populated by many who desperately need a
relationship with God through faith in Christ
alone.
John Tittle, his
wife Jennifer, his son Carson and Mark Stamper moved
to Bend in July 2007. Church services began on
September 16, 2007
at Shilo Inn. In the beginng of 2008, COBC moved to its current location at 500 SW Bond Street in the Old Mill District. God has blessed COBC through
the support of many Christians and churches both
in Oregon and around the United States. Through the establishment and growth of COBC, God’s sovereignty
has been clearly evident. God is truly good and
faithful to bless the proclamation of His Word and those who follow Him.
