Pastor's Welcome
|
"Central
Oregon Baptist Church is committed to being a place
where truth is cherished and the joy of knowing and obeying
God can be personally experienced. We strive to provide an
environment that promotes growth in one’s relationship to
God and cultivates healthy relationships with others. Such
an environment can only be attained through the careful,
biblical exposition of Scripture, Spirit-filled living, and
mutual encouragement as we gather together as a church family. We believe that you will find our
church to be a place that offers real answers from God’s
Word for your needs. Come and see if COBC is the place for
you!"

What to Expect
|
To help visitors better understand what to expect at COBC, we have provided descriptions of each of our weekly services. We worship God through concentrated times of expository preaching and teaching, biblical fellowship, and prayer (Acts 2:42) as the family of God, a community of life, and a truth-base (1 Timothy 3:15).
Sunday Morning Bible Fellowship
At 9:30 on Sunday morning we come together for about 45 minutes for our Bible Fellowship at which time we learn about God’s Word and its application to all areas of life. Dress tends toward business-casual, though you can come as you are. Our goal is to be an encouragement and blessing to those who come as we all sit and hear expositional teaching from a book of the Bible.
Sunday Morning Worship Service
At 10:30 on Sunday morning we come together for the Worship Service. As in the Bible Fellowship hour, dress tends toward business-casual, though all are welcome to come as they are.
The pastor begins by welcoming everyone and opening with a pastoral prayer, which follows a passage of Scripture. We read a verse, usually from the book of Psalms, to help us focus on the reason for gathering together – worshipping God through singing, giving, the preaching of God’s Word, and biblical fellowship. Following the opening to the service, we sing several songs and hear Scripture read publicly to prepare our hearts for the preaching of God’s Word. The music we sing at COBC is doctrinally rich. We sing both hymns and choruses and seek to offer praise to God through our singing in a manner that is fitting of God’s holy character. This time is followed by the preaching of God’s Word. Preaching at COBC is gospel-driven and expositional, meaning that it seeks to declare the point of a particular Biblical passage and call us to a decision. We sing a closing song, give announcements and conclude with a prayer. A typical service is finished by 11:45am. We enjoy a time of fellowship following the morning service as we connect with each other and encourage each other.
Wednesday Evening Bible Study
At 7:00 on Wednesday night we meet together for an in-depth Bible study and a time of prayer. Dress tends to be varied from business-casual to casual, as some come directly from work.
We open with brief announcements, a song, and a pastoral prayer. Our goal for this service is to lay a solid foundation of biblical knowledge that impacts our daily lives and enables us to serve Christ more effectively. As a time of teaching, people are encouraged to participate by asking questions related to the study. Our Bible study usually concludes approximately ten minutes before the end of the hour so that we may have a short time of corporate prayer. Since it is a work and school night, our service is limited to one hour ending at or slightly after 8:00pm.
